The Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a comprehensive reshaping of its executive hierarchy aimed at reinforcing accountability, simplifying the customer experience, and aligning the institution more closely with its long‑term strategy of sustainable growth, deeper client relationships, and elevated service standards.
Effective 4 August, following Board of Directors’ approval, four senior leaders will assume adjacent executive roles for an initial six‑month period as part of a deliberate leadership‑depth initiative.
- Aishath Zamra Zahir moves to Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing the bank’s revenue‑generating functions and market‑facing strategies.
- Moosa Nimal takes on the role of Chief Marketing Officer, directing brand positioning, customer engagement, and digital outreach.
- Rashfa Jaufar becomes Chief Risk Officer, responsible for enterprise‑wide risk identification, mitigation frameworks and regulatory compliance.
- Gary Laughton assumes the position of Chief Credit Officer, steering credit policy, underwriting standards and portfolio quality.
CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef described the reshuffle as a growth‑oriented move, insisting that the move is designed to serve customers better and grow faster.
“The temporary rotation of executive roles is a deliberate investment in leadership depth, giving experienced leaders direct exposure to an adjacent discipline strengthens both the individual and the institution. It reflects our confidence in this team and our ongoing commitment to developing Maldivian leadership at every level,” he said.
The restructuring is internal with BML emphasising that customers’ accounts, products, services, and existing points of contact will remain unchanged. By fostering cross‑functional insight among its top executives, the bank aims to break down silos, accelerate decision‑making, and reinforce a culture of accountability that supports its vision of sustainable, customer‑centric growth in the Maldives and beyond.
