Bank of Maldives Recognised Globally in Forbes’ World’s Top Performing Banks 2026
This prestigious global ranking, developed in partnership with market research firm Statista, recognises BML as one of the 500 most resilient and high-performing banks across 89 countries.
Bank of Maldives (BML), the island nation’s leading financial institution, has achieved a historic milestone by being named in the inaugural Forbes’ World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 list.
This prestigious global ranking, developed in partnership with market research firm Statista, recognises BML as one of the 500 most resilient and high-performing banks across 89 countries.
The inclusion marks a significant turning point for the Maldivian banking sector, placing the national bank on a global stage alongside some of the world’s most venerable financial institutions, such as JPMorganChase, DBS, and HDFC Bank. The ranking is based on a rigorous assessment of objective financial and operational data across four pillars—profitability, growth and earnings quality, capital and funding resilience and asset quality and efficiency.
BML is featured in Tier 6 of the list, which categorises institutions with total assets ranging between USD 3 billion and USD 10 billion. By being benchmarked directly against international peers of comparable scale, BML’s inclusion serves as an independent affirmation of its robust financial health and sound risk management practices in an increasingly volatile global economic landscape.
"This recognition is based purely on hard financial data, measured against banks of our size around the world, and it speaks for itself," Mohamed Shareef, CEO & Managing Director of Bank of Maldives said.
"It confirms what our results have consistently shown. Bank of Maldives is a strong, well-capitalised, and resilient institution, built on prudent risk management and sound governance. Our customers can bank with confidence, and our shareholders can see the value we continue to create."
The Forbes ranking draws on comprehensive financial information from leading data providers, including S&P Capital IQ, alongside independent research and published reports. For BML, the recognition underscores its pivotal role as the cornerstone of the Maldivian economy. As the national bank, BML remains the primary driver of financial activity in the country, supporting individuals and businesses through an extensive network and continued investment in digital banking infrastructure.
The Bank noted that this international accolade serves as encouragement to further elevate its standards. By focusing on sustainable growth and balance sheet resilience, BML aims to continue facilitating economic opportunity and supporting the long-term aspirations of the Maldivian people.
"As the national bank, we take our responsibility to the Maldivian economy seriously," Shareef added.
"We will keep strengthening our foundations, investing in our people and technology, and supporting the growth of businesses and communities across the country."
