The Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology has officially unveiled the “My Career Portal”, marking a major step toward consolidating job‑search, recruitment, and career‑development services for Maldivians under a single digital platform.
The launch was presided over by the Homeland Minister Ali Ihusaan, who emphasised that the portal will directly address a persistent mismatch between the education pathways pursued by Maldivians and the actual demands of the local labour market.
According to the Ministry, the portal’s core objectives are threefold—to connect job seekers, employers, and career advisors in one accessible hub, to fortify the nation’s labour sector by reducing friction between talent supply and demand and to deliver a user‑friendly system that leverages modern technology for real‑time matching and guidance.
Key Features of the Portal
Career Guidance: Users can engage directly with certified counselors who help set realistic career goals, devise personalised development plans, and monitor progress through actionable milestones.
Career Pathway Designer: Expert‑driven roadmaps outline the steps needed to achieve long‑term professional aspirations, integrating skill acquisition, certifications, and experiential learning.
Milestone Tracker: A visual dashboard consolidates an individual’s education, training, and work history, making it easy to spot achievements and pinpoint areas needing further development.
Job Matching: The system publishes current vacancies, automatically recommends positions aligned with a user’s skill set, and streamlines the application process to cut down on time and administrative burden.
The initiative was executed by the National Career Service (NCS) and financed through the World Bank‑supported SAILS (Skills Alignment and Inclusive Labor Systems) project.
Minister Ihusaan noted that the portal will be accessible to the public immediately via www.mycareer.gov.mv.
Addressing the Skills‑Jobs Mismatch
Speaking at the launch, Minister Ihusaan highlighted one of the biggest challenges facing the Maldivian workforce today.
“People are obtaining education qualifications and acquiring skills in fields that do not align with the jobs available in the Maldives. This leads to prolonged unemployment, underemployment, or forcing individuals into unrelated work just to earn a living, while sectors with high demand remain vacant,” he explained.
“The government has long recognised the need to reduce the friction between job seekers and employers. Although ad‑hoc career counseling existed, there was no single, technology‑driven platform that could offer guidance, pathway design, tracking, and job matching all in one place.”
The ‘My Career Portal’ fills that gap and promises to make the labour market more transparent, efficient, and responsive to national development goals, he added.
The portal’s rollout aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s broader vision under the “Maldives 2.0” agenda, which prioritises the creation of a capable, skilled youth workforce and seeks to place Maldivians at the forefront of employment opportunities.
By centralising labour‑market information and career‑support services, the My Career Portal aims to turn education into tangible employment, reduce skill‑underutilisation, and foster a more resilient economy.
