Visit Maldives Corporation has officially commenced its highly anticipated Visit Maldives Week in Australia, a strategic three-city roadshow designed to significantly strengthen the archipelago nation's presence in one of its fastest-growing long-haul markets.
Kicking off today in Perth, the initiative will subsequently move to Melbourne on July 22 and conclude in Sydney on July 23, fostering crucial industry partnerships and promoting the Maldives as the premier holiday destination for Australian travellers.
Operating under the re-envisioned Visit Maldives Week banner, this immersive roadshow provides a dynamic platform for travel trade professionals, media representatives, key influencers, and other industry stakeholders to engage directly with leading Maldivian tourism partners.
Attendees will gain insights into the destination's latest products, bespoke experiences, and ongoing developments, aligning with Visit Maldives' overarching strategy to build a robust market presence through sustained trade engagement and targeted destination marketing efforts.
The timing of this year's roadshow holds particular significance following the successful launch of Maldivian's direct flight services between Malé and Melbourne in May 2026. This enhanced air connectivity between the two nations is creating unprecedented opportunities to boost visitor arrivals from Australia, a milestone Visit Maldives is actively leveraging to cultivate stronger relationships with travel agents, tour operators, wholesalers, and other vital industry partners, simultaneously showcasing the newfound ease of travel to the idyllic islands.
Australia continues to demonstrate remarkable growth as a source market for the Maldives. Between January and May 2026, the destination welcomed an impressive 20,126 Australian visitors, marking a substantial 14.1percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2025. This performance secured Australia's position as the Maldives' 10th largest source market, contributing 2.2 percent to total tourist arrivals. May 2026 alone saw an exceptional 24.2 percent year-on-year surge in Australian arrivals, significantly outperforming overall market growth during the same month.
Australian travellers are consistently identified among the Maldives' highest-value visitors, with 77.2 percent opting for luxurious resort accommodation. However, there is a discernible trend of growing interest in guesthouses, hotels, and liveaboards, reflecting an increasing appreciation for the destination's diverse range of tourism offerings beyond traditional resorts.
Eleven prominent Maldivian tourism companies are participating in the roadshow, vividly showcasing a wide array of experiences and products. These include Coco Bodu Hithi, Fushifaru Maldives, Voyages Maldives Pvt Ltd, Island Aviation Services Limited, Villa Resorts, Baglioni Resort Maldives, Pulse Hotels & Resorts, Resort Life Travel Pvt Ltd, Exciting Maldives, Splendid Asia Pvt Ltd, and Arrival Beach and Spa. Each event across the three cities features comprehensive destination presentations, dedicated business-to-business (B2B) meetings, invaluable networking sessions, engaging promotional activities, interactive games, and exciting holiday raffle giveaways. Furthermore, specific media and influencer networking opportunities have been integrated to amplify the Maldives' visibility across the Australian market and foster collaborations with key opinion leaders and content creators.
Visit Maldives maintains a comprehensive marketing strategy tailored for the Australian market, incorporating joint campaigns with partners like Luxury Escapes, ongoing influencer collaborations, familiarisation trips for travel professionals, and targeted advertising initiatives. These concerted efforts, coupled with the impactful Visit Maldives Week roadshow, are projected to further strengthen destination awareness, deepen crucial industry partnerships, and sustain the impressive growth trajectory from one of the Maldives' most promising long-haul source markets.
