Maldives Launches "Kuri" Portal to Streamline Financial Support for Students Abroad

In a significant move to alleviate the financial and administrative burdens on government-sponsored students studying abroad, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has officially launched a new digital portal named “Kuri.”

The platform, unveiled at a ceremony presided over by Minister Dr Ali Haider, is designed to directly address the persistent delays and difficulties students face in receiving their stipends and tuition.

The newly launched portal, accessible at kuri.gov.mv, represents a cornerstone of the government's effort to modernise and digitise its educational support services. During the launch, Minister Haider emphasised the administration's commitment to investing in the nation's youth through scholarships and loans. He said that the "Kuri" system is a direct response to the financial challenges that have long plagued students dependent on government funding.

"The government has given high priority to provide reliable and fast education services that prioritize the needs of the students through the system. The Kuri system will play a vital role in addressing the financial challenges faced by the students," Dr. Haider said.

He elaborated on the portal's functionalities, noting that this  system will strengthen the document completion system and facilitate delayed disbursement of funds.

“Students will be able to view their financial transactions immediately. It will also end the long wait to find out the eligibility for various scholarships and funding schemes,” he added.

The Minister underscored that the primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that no Maldivian student misses an educational opportunity due to administrative inefficiencies or financial constraints. By providing a transparent, efficient, and centralised digital system, the government aims to foster a more supportive environment for its students overseas.

This project is a key component of the broader "Maldives 2.0" initiative, which seeks to digitise operations across all state institutions, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility for all citizens.
