Maldives to Showcase Island Splendour as Official Host Country of ITB Berlin 2027
The Maldives, the iconic archipelago renowned for its pristine atolls and luxurious resorts, is set to take centre stage as the Official Host Country of ITB Berlin 2027.
This prestigious role will see the island nation present its unparalleled beauty, rich diversity, and renowned hospitality to the global travel industry at the world's leading travel trade show.
The partnership was officially confirmed during a signing ceremony at ITB Berlin 2026. Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), and Dr Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, sealed the agreement, marking a significant milestone for both parties.
"We are delighted that, 10 years after their first appearance as Host Country, the Maldives will once again take center stage at ITB Berlin," explained Dr Tobias.
"This long-standing partnership underscores the importance of ITB Berlin as a global platform and highlights the Maldives’ prominent role in the international travel industry. In 2027, we look forward to showcasing the Maldives’ extraordinary beauty and diversity, while also demonstrating how tourism and sustainability can go hand in hand."
With over 1,000 islands, turquoise lagoons, and vibrant coral reefs, the Maldives stands as a benchmark for long-haul destinations. As Host Country, it will present the full spectrum of its tourism offerings—from exclusive luxury resorts and boutique properties to world-class diving, wellness retreats, and authentic cultural experiences on local islands. A core focus will be on its commitment to sustainability, highlighting initiatives dedicated to protecting its delicate marine ecosystems and supporting local communities.

“ITB Berlin provides us with the ideal platform to showcase the unique experiences our islands offer to travelers from around the world,” Shiuree said.
“We look forward to welcoming the global tourism industry in Berlin and highlighting the diversity, quality and hospitality that define the Maldives as a destination.”
This announcement dovetails with the Maldivian government's declaration of 2027 as “Visit Maldives Year,” a landmark national initiative aimed at aggressively promoting the destination on the global stage. The Host Country role at ITB Berlin will serve as a cornerstone of this campaign.
As the star attraction, the Maldives will host the official opening gala on 15 March 2027, and present a vibrant programme throughout the show. Trade visitors can expect an impressive national stand, captivating cultural performances, and high-level networking events designed to cement the nation’s position as a leader in international tourism.
